Lisa Layman, MA, LPCA, LCAS-A, CSAT

As you know, this specialization has become relevant in today’s society more so than in generations of the past with the ease of access to pornography, cultural attitudes and early exposure. Sex Addiction is a complex area and I hope to build a better understanding by clinicians in identifying and educating others about its prevalence.

My presentation revolves around the following:

    • The controversy around inclusion of Sex Addiction as a diagnosis included in the DSM
    •  "Not your Daddy’s Porn” - the evolution of sex addiction - “Contemporary" v. “Classic” Sex Addiction
    • Porn IQ - Group Activity
    • Competencies for professionals:

Assessment - Tools of the Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (SDI, PTSI); Simple Assessment for      clinicians; Personal bias and training - when and why “addiction” is the right label; Managing Transference; Performing a Sexual History - Group Activity

    • Brief overview of current neuroscience
    •  Case conceptualizations - Case examples - Group Activity
    • Working with Sex Addiction
    • Trauma model, Addiction model, Attachment, Sex therapy, and intersections
    • Working with Spouses
    • Working with couples
    • Resources and discussion
